Two party offices of the CPM, including its headquarters, were set on fire by unidentified people following violence in some districts of Tripura and state capital Agartala. The CPM state headquarters Bhanu Smriti Bhavan and Dasarath Bhavan have been set ablaze. Several vehicles outside have been torched as well.
The CPM tweeted what they claimed were videos of the attacks carried out by the BJP.
"Following videos shows how the BJP mobs attacked the state party office in Agartala. BJP is scared of the voices that are exposing it in the state and hence is resorting to terror," the tweet read.
In the video, shot from inside a building, shows a flag waving mob vandalising cars parked below.
Party offices in Bishalgarh and Kathalia districts were also targeted.
The trouble had started after a BJP protest march in Agartala to protest against the recent clashes with the CPM in some districts.
The BJP claimed that bombs were hurled from the CPM office.
Agriculture minister Pranajit Singha Roy rushed to the spot soon after the clash and took stock of the situation. Later, speaking to the media, the minister said the youth wing of the CPM had held a rally without seeking prior permission from police, reported news agency Press Trust of India.
On Monday, supporters of the two parties had clashed when former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was allegedly prevented from moving to Dhanpur.
The police said the injured BJP activist from Udaipur, who was in a critical condition, was shifted to G.B Pant hospital in Agartala.
