Jaipur:
Millions in cash continue to tumble out of lockers of Rajasthan's corrupt dairy official. Four lockers of Surendra Sharma, a Deputy Manager in the Rajasthan Dairy Federation coughed up Rs 2 crore and 35 lakh in cash on Saturday. The Anti-Corruption Bureau says, this is the biggest seizure ever from a single official in Rajasthan.
"We've recovered Rs 2 crore and 35 lakh in cash from his lockers here. And earlier we got over Rs 2 crore from his lockers in Ajmer. By now the total cash we've seized from his lockers is Rs 4 crore and 70 lakhs," said Bhanwar Singh, Additional SP, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Rajasthan.
Sharma was arrested last week with over one crore in cash from his home in Ajmer. Since then his lockers have stacked up crores of black money and lots of jewellery including dozens of gold biscuits. And waking up to the terrible scam under its very nose, the Gehlot government has now ordered a special probe.
"When so much money has been recovered from one person, we need to know who all cooperated with him that enabled this official to loot so much money. I've asked for a detailed report on this issue," said Babu Lal Nagar, Dairy Minister, Rajasthan.
All this money has been seized from eight lockers of the official and four lockers are yet to be opened.
This huge scam has put not just the guilty official but the entire Dairy Federation here in the dock. And the big question now is could a single official have amassed so much of black money without the connivance and collusion of many others.
