Raipur, Chhattisgarh: A CRPF jawan allegedly committed suicide today by shooting himself with his service weapon at a paramilitary camp in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said.
"Constable Pavitra Yadav (44) belonging to 168th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle early this morning," Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Indira Kalyan Elesela said.
"At the time of the incident, the jawan was on duty at the camp located beside old jail in the Bijapur town," he added.
When his colleagues heard the gunshot they rushed to the spot and found Mr Yadav lying in a pool of blood.
Immediately, he was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead, the ASP said.
"The jawan was a native of Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. The exact reason which prompted him to take the extreme step is yet to be ascertained," he said.
A case has been registered in this connection, police said, adding, further investigation is on.
