CRPF Jawan Dies For India, 2 Terrorists Killed In Encounter In Jammu And Kashmir's Pulwama

A CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) jawan died for the country during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district this morning, police said. Two terrorists were killed in the encounter that started at around 5:30 am in a village about 43 km from Srinagar.

The security operation was "initiated by the Pulwama Police at the Bandzoo village by Pulwama police along with troops from the CRPF's 182 battalion and the Rashtriya Rifles," officials said. The troops came under fire when they were under the joint patrol. They retaliated, killing two terrorists. The search operation is still on.

A CRPF jawan, who sustained gunshot wounds, died after he was rushed to the hospital.

In a tweet, the Kashmir Zone Police paid tributes to the CRPF officer killed in action. "IGP Kashmir and all ranks pay #tribute to our brave heart of CRPF who attained #martyrdom in today's #Encounter at #Pulwama. @JmuKmrPolice," the post read.

More than 30 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir in separate encounters this month. Over 100 have been killed this year during different security operations.

On Sunday, three terrorists - holed up in a house - were killed by security forces in Zadibal Soura area of Srinagar. Two of the terrorists were active since 2019, police said. "One was involved in attack on two BSF jawans last month," officials added.

Last week, eight terrorists were killed in two encounters in Shopian and Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours

Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an encounter in Kulgam on June 19.
