A CRPF jawan, who was home on leave, was killed by terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir this evening. This is the fourth attack by terrorists in the last three days.
Mukthar Ahmad, the Central Reserve Police Force personnel, died of his injuries while on way to the hospital. Police said the area has been cordoned of to track down attackers.
"Terrorists fired upon one CRPF personnel namely Mukhtar Ahmad Dohi of Shopian. He succumbed to his injuries while on way to the hospital. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow," tweeted Jammu and Kashmir police.
This comes close on the heels of the killings of the two village heads in Kashmir. Shabir Ahmad Mir, the sarpanch associated with the BJP, was shot dead by terrorists in Kulgam on Friday, two days after Bashir Ahmad Bhat, sarpanch of Khanmoh. on the outskirts of Srinagar, was killed by terrorists.
In last one week, there has been a rise in terrorist incidents across Jammu and Kashmir.
The sarpanch of Khanmoh was shot deadin a target attack by the terrorists on Wednesday. The target killing was carried out hours after an IED attack in Udhampur town in Jammu region in which one person was killed and 14 others were injured.
On Sunday, terrorists threw a grenade in busy market place in Srinagar. killing two people and injuring 38 others.
Meanwhile, four terrorists, including a Pakistani commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were killed and another was arrested during three separate encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The encounters took place in Pulwama, Ganderbal and Kupwara districts of Kashmir Valley, a police spokesman said.
