Jammu: The curfew, imposed in the Kashmir Valley two days ago, has been lifted in Srinagar. The state remained largely peaceful yesterday despite calls for protests after four people were killed in firing by the Border Security Force in Gool area of Ramban district on Thursday. However, restrictions in the vulnerable parts of the state will continue.

The Amarnath Yatra, which was halted in the wake of the protests, resumed yesterday evening from Jammu. The stranded pilgrims had held protests in Jammu on Saturday over not being allowed to continue on their journey. Movement of the yatris begun today.

The Jammu-Srinagar Highway too has opened for traffic after three days. Some protesters, however, tried to block the road near Banihal yesterday by sitting on a dharna demanding the arrest of the people involved in the firing incident.

The authorities are monitoring the situation round-the-clock and additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas of the Jammu region, a police spokesman said.
