The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued an Orange alert for Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat as the cyclonic storm Biparjoy is set to cross the Jakhau Port in Gujarat by the evening of June 15 as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS).

Cyclone Biparjoy: Minister Reviews Preparations For Power Supply In Coastal Areas
Union Power Minister RK Singh on Tuesday held a review meeting with senior officers of the Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Grid Controller of India and PGCIL for the preparations for maintenance of power supply in coastal areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan which are likely to be affected by Cyclone 'Biparjoy'. As per the Ministry of Power, "RK Singh also discussed various necessary arrangements with the Power Minister of Gujarat on the phone."
Cyclone Biparjoy: 30,000 From Coastal Districts Shifted To Temporary Shelters
Authorities on Tuesday shifted 30,000 people from coastal areas to temporary shelters two days before powerful cyclone Biparjoy's expected landfall near Jakhau port in Gujarat's Kutch district. An official said several NDRF and SDRF teams are on standby. Simultaneously, Army authorities have jointly planned relief operations with civil administration and National Disaster Response Force.
Cyclone Biparjoy Won't Impact Monsoon Further: Weather Office
Cyclone Biparjoy is now completely detached from the monsoonal flow and will not adversely impact the advance of the rain-bearing system or its performance, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference here, IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the cyclone, however, helped the monsoon advance over southern parts of the peninsula by increasing the cross-equatorial flow over the Arabian Sea.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a review meeting on the preparedness for cyclone 'Biparjoy'. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and MPs from eight likely affected districts in the state, which could be impacted by the cyclone, virtually participated in the meeting. The India Meteorological Department on Monday said that the extremely severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' has weakened into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS).
Cyclone Biparjoy: 50 Crew Members Of Jackup Rig Rescued By Indian Coast Guard In Gujarat
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has evacuated a 50-member crew of a jackup rig in Gujarat as a preventive measure ahead of the expected landfall of severe Cyclone Biparjoy, an official statement said on Tuesday. "In a swift and well-coordinated move, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) evacuated 50 lives on June 13 at Okha, Gujarat as a preventive measure," the statement issued by the Defence Ministry said.

With cyclone 'Biparjoy' barrelling towards Kutch district in Gujarat, shelter homes are being set up with arrangements for rations and meals while an action plan is being put in place to tackle medical and health emergencies, Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday. He said all labourers working at ports in coastal areas have been evacuated, ships have been anchored, and crew members shifted to safer places.

Cyclone Biparjoy: IMD issues Orange alert for Saurashtra, Kutch coasts in GujaratThe India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued an Orange alert for Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat as the cyclonic storm Biparjoy is set to cross the Jakhau Port in Gujarat by the evening of June 15 as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS).

Cyclone Biparjoy: Railways Set Up Control Room In Gujarat
The Railways has activated the disaster management room and also opened emergency control rooms in several districts of Gujarat to ensure smooth rail functioning in the wake of Cyclone Biparjoy. Director of Information and Publication Railway Board, Shivaji Sutar, on Monday said that sufficient manpower and machinery has been deployed with adequate preparation to deal with any emergency situation. Weather Office's Latest Bulletin On Cyclone Biparjoy
Cyclone Biparjoy lay centered at 5:30 am about 300 km west-southwest of Porbandar, 290 km southwest of Devbhumi Dwarka, 340 km south-southwest of Jakhau Port and 480 km south of Karachi (Pakistan), the weather office said in its latest update this morning.
"It is very likely to cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by evening of 15th June as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph," the IMD said.
It has issued heavy rain warning for Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh and Morbi districts of Gujarat. Besides, wind warning has been issued along and off Saurashtra and Kutch coasts (Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh and Morbi districts) including Gulf of Kutch.
