M K Stalin Announces Cyclone Relief Fund Of Rs 2,000 To Rain-Affected Families

The families in Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi districts which bore the brunt of damage caused by Cyclone Fengal would be provided a relief of Rs 2,000 each, Tamil Nadu Chief M K Stalin announced on Tuesday.

Chairing a meeting at the Secretariat here to assess the damage due to rain in the state, the chief minister directed the officials to provide a relief sum of Rs 2,000 on the basis of family ration cards to families whose livelihood was affected due to a very heavy rain in Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi districts. These districts witnessed unprecedented rain for more than two days.

Weather Agency Issues Alert For Rains In Coastal Areas Of Karnataka

As per the IMD till 8 30 am today heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka and north Kerala while heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over north interior Tamil Nadu and Heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and Rayalaseema.

The MeT department said that it is likely to move west-northwestwards over east-central Arabian sea during next two days. It is likely to maintain the intensity for next 24 hours and weaken gradually thereafter, the IMD said.

In an advisory to fishermen, the IMD asked them not to venture into the Lakshadweep area from December 3-5, and over southeast adjoining east central Arabian sea during December 4-7.

Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall near Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, weakened into a deep depression on Sunday, but heavy rains and floods continued to pound several parts of the state and union territory. Visuals showed massive floodwaters at the Uthangiri bus station in Krishnagiri as several buses and other vehicles were submerged.
