New Delhi: Coastal Bengal is on high alert and thousands of people are being evacuated from low lying areas near the coast. Heavy rains caused flooding in the streets of Midnapore district as strong winds uprooted trees and communication lines. Rescue workers have been engaged in cleaning operations following the destruction cause by cyclone Aila.
