Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over northeastern Bay of Bengal today intensified into cyclonic storm 'Komen' which is set to trigger heavy to very heavy rain coupled with squally surface wind in several areas of Odisha. After moving northwestwards, the cyclone lay centred around 440 kms east of Balasore, the meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar said.
The system would move north-northwestwards and cross Bangladesh coast shortly. After landfall, it would move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually.
Under its impact, rain and thundershower would occur at many places in Odisha.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in coastal Odisha and adjoining Maurbhanj district would occur during next 24 hours, the Metrological office said.
In view of the weather condition, Local Cautionary Signal Number-Three (LC-III) was replaced by Danger Signal Number Five (D-V) at all ports in Odisha.
Squally surface wind with speed reaching 50 to 70 kmph would prevail along and off Odisha coast. Sea condition would be very rough to high and fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea, it said.
The system would move north-northwestwards and cross Bangladesh coast shortly. After landfall, it would move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually.
