Barabanki: A Dalit man's face was blackened by villagers in the Barabanki district for allegedly trying to molest a village girl.
Babloo Rawat, the accused was tied to a tree and a garland of shoes was hung around his neck as a punishment for his alleged offence.
He also allegedly tried to strangle her after attempting to outrage her modesty.
Babloo is alleged to be a serial offender who has complaints regarding the same against him in the past. The villagers had complained about his conduct to the village elders in the past as well.
"An FIR has been registered against Babloo," said the circle officer of the area Deependra Nath Chaudhary.
The villagers who beat him have not been booked as the accused has not given any written complaint against them.
