Dehradun: Highlighting the importance of girl education, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said all steps are being taken by the state government to provide better facilities to girls.
Distributing computer tablets among high school and intermediate board top scorers at the district and block level among girls here last night, Mr Rawat said: "Our daughters will be the vehicle of change in Uttarakhand. I am sure the more facilities we provide them, the better will be their performance."
He said the state government is taking all steps to make technological education a little more girl-oriented. All women ITI, polytechnic and nursing institutes are being conceived to help girls develop proper skills and get employment, he added.
"Computer tablets being given away to meritorious girls today are a symbolic gift to them so that they make optimum use of the available technology for their benefit in terms of academic excellence and a good career," Mr Rawat said.
A total of 314 top-scoring girls at the high school and intermediate board levels got the computer tablets, with state education minister Mantri Prasad Naithani welcoming it as a great initiative.
