London:
Iqbal Mirchi, known as the right-hand man of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has been arrested in London.
Mr Mirchi, whose real name is Iqbal Menon, is wanted by India in multiple cases of murder and extortion. He's also among those accused of organizing the serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993. The 61-year-old reportedly manages Dawood's drug business.
"He was arrested today (Tuesday) for some offence committed in London," Dharini Mishra, CBI spokesperson, said today.
Mr Mirchi escaped from Mumbai in the early 90s and has been on the run since then. An Interpol Red Corner Notice - which is like an international arrest warrant - was issued against him in 1994. He has reportedly been moving between Dubai and London.
CBI sources said they would approach the UK police through the Interpol and diplomatic channels to seek his extradition or deportation to India.
He acquired the moniker Mirchi because his family originally traded red chilli powder.
