A two-and-a-half-year deaf and mute girl was allegedly raped by a 30-year-old man in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district following which the accused was arrested, the police said on Monday.
The accused identified as Shivnath (30) was arrested on Sunday, Station House Officer of Bheemganj police station Hanuman Singh Choudhary said.
According to the police, the girl was sleeping with her parents when the accused allegedly picked her up and took her to a secluded spot near the mortuary and raped her.
After committing the alleged crime, he slept on the cemented platform there leaving the toddler on the ground, the SHO said.
Parents are said to be labourer and had come to visit one of their ailing relatives in the hospital on Saturday, Mr Choudhary said.
When they wake up in the morning they found that their daughter was missing and informed the police chowki, he said, adding the cops searched the girl from near the mortuary.
A case under various sections of IPC including 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered against the accused, the police said.
Shivnath has been sent to a 14-day judicial custody, the SHO said.
