Nashik: A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence in Khirdi village of Maharashtra's Nashik district, police said today.
Dattu Choudhari,48, yesterday committed suicide as he was unable to pay loan of Rs 1 lakh, the police said. Drought for the third consecutive year also added to his plight, an official attached with Nandgaon Police Station said.
Following a complaint by his brother Rajaram, a case has been registered in this regard, the officer said.
The local police and state revenue department is conduction a joint investigation in the case, he added.
