The Sharjah Appeals Court has postponed the hearing of an appeal by 17 Indians against their death sentence for killing a Pakistani man till December 30, the lawyer handling the case for the Indians has said.
"The prosecution presented the CD containing the reconstruction of the scene of the crime that we had asked for but the police officials that were supposed to be present in the court did not show up," Bindu Suresh Chettur told PTI.
She said this annoyed the judge who issued a warning to police officials to remain present in court on December 30.
According to her, the defence was prepared to cross-examine the evidence that the prosecution was to bring to the court but that didn't materialise.
"We will now go back and analyse the CD so that we are prepared to cross-examine during the next hearing," she said.
A bootlegging dispute between an Indian and Pakistani group reportedly over territorial rights had led to the death of a Pakistani national Misri Nazir Khan near a Sharjah labour camp in January 2009.
Seventeen Indians were arrested and sentenced to death in this connection.
