Mumbai: Hearing the anticipatory bail applications of playback singer Adnan Sami and his parents, a Mumbai court has said it will give its ruling on May 22. The court is hearing a case of alleged harassment filed against them by Adnan's wife Sabah Galadari.

Adnan had approached the Sessions court seeking pre-arrest bail after Sabah registered a case of mental harassment with the suburban Oshiwara police station.

According to Sabah's lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, while she married Adnan out of love and affection, the singer did so for money as she hails from an affluent family in Dubai.

"Adnan is an alcoholic and subjected Sabah to severe cruelty and harassment and had mortgaged flats owned by her to avail a loan of over Rs one crore," Jethmalani said in the court.

In 2008, Adnan underwent treatment for his alcoholism three times and the expenses were borne by Sabah, he said.

Jethmalani opposed Sami's bail application, stating that possibilities like threatening the complainant and witnesses needs to be considered. Also, the signer is a foreign national (hailing from Pakistan) and there is likelihood of him absconding.
