New Delhi:
For the first time since he was expelled by the BJP, Jaswant Singh chaired a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee. All 3 BJP members of this committee skipped the session.
This didn't bother Singh, who says he hopes the BJP will improve its attendance in the future. "It was a good meeting. I am continuing as Chairman because I do not accept dictatorship of any party," he added.
After expelling him, the BJP had said that Singh should quit on moral grounds, since the position of Chairman should rest with the main Opposition Party. After his expulsion, Singh is an independent MP. However, technically, only the Speaker of the House can ask Jaswant Singh to give up his post.
The BJP had sent senior leader Sushma Swaraj to convey its request to Singh last month. This was the party's first official contact with Singh after he was sacked for releasing a book which praises Mohammed Ali Jinnah, and criticizes Sardar Patel.
