Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tested negative for coronavirus on Tuesday, a day after he went into self-isolation at his home after a bout of fever and throat pain, his party said.
Aam Aadmi Party sources earlier in the day had said that the Delhi Chief Minister was feeling slightly better.
Mr Kejriwal, 51, had been unwell since Sunday afternoon and hasn't met anyone since then. He had isolated himself at his government bungalow in Delhi.
"He is running a fever and has a sore throat, which happen to be COVID symptoms. So doctors have advised him to take a test tomorrow," AAP MLA Raghav Chadha told NDTV on Monday.
There was greater concern because Mr Kejriwal is diabetic, Mr Chadha said.
The Chief Minister on Sunday morning met with members of his cabinet and senior officials. Later, he addressed a brief digital press conference to announce a new policy of reserving hospital beds for residents of Delhi, which was soon cancelled by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
Delhi has seen a spurt in COVID-19 cases and over 1,000 new cases daily for the past few days. On Monday, the number of cases crossed the 29,000-mark with 2,289 new infections while the number of deaths climbed to 812, the last health bulletin issued by the Delhi government said.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said infections of coronavirus in the capital will climb to more than 5 lakh by the end of July and it does not have the hospital capacity to handle such an outbreak.
The warning came as harrowing accounts of people struggling to get a hospital bed in the city emerged, including some who said their loved ones died on the doorsteps of medical centres which refused to take them in.
Despite a vast lockdown imposed in March, the disease is spreading in India at one of the world's fastest rates as it re-opens a battered economy.
The number of cases stood at 2,66,598, the world's fifth largest and is set to overtake the United Kingdom in the next few days.
