Over the last two years, a majority of AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, his trusted aide Manish Sisodia, and a number of his party's leaders spent time in jail over multiple corruption allegations.

Will the just-concluded assembly elections spell the end of the dream run by Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital? Six of seven exit polls appear to think so, with just one tentatively giving the party half a chance. WeePreside Exit Polls, so far the only pollsters, have predicted an AAP win with it seat count anywhere between 46-52, while it predicts that the BJP will win 18-23 seats. The Congress, it says, will win just a single seat. 

Chanakya Strategies has predicted 39-44 seats for the BJP, while it gave the ruling AAP anywhere between 25-28 seats. The Congress, the third player in the contest, is likely to get anywhere between 2-3 seats, says the exit poll.

Peoples Pulse has given BJP anywhere between 51-60 seats, way above the halfway mark of 36 in the 70-member assembly. The AAP, it says, will win only 10-19 seats. The pollsters have predicted zero seats for the Congress.

Seven exit polls have predicted that the Congress will win anywhere between 1-3 seats. The party has failed to win any seat in the last two editions of the Delhi polls. The Congress' Delhi drought, show exit polls, will go on.

The Matrize polls has predicted seats anywhere between 39-45 for the BJP, while it gave the ruling AAP anywhere between 32-37 seats. The halfway mark in the 70-member assembly is 36. P Marq predicted 39-49 seats for the BJP, while it gave only 21-31 seats to the AAP. People's Insight precited 40-44 seats for the BJP and 25-29 for the AAP. All three pollsters have predicted only 0-2 seats for the Congress, which has not won any seat in the last two elections. 

The Delhi exit polls results are trickling in. Three exit polls, so far, have predicted a BJP win, giving it anywhere between 35-60 seats, while the for the ruling AAP the projections look grim, with the seat projection ranging between 32-37. 

At a polling booth in Delhi's Majnu Ka Tilla, Reshma pressed the button on an electronic voting machine on Wednesday with a sense of pride as a smile spread across her face. For the first time in her life, the 50-year-old woman cast her vote - not just to choose a candidate, but for her family's future. Reshma is one of 186 Pakistani Hindu refugees who, after years of uncertainty, exercised their voting right for the first time in the Delhi Assembly polls, marking a powerful moment in their journey from statelessness to citizenship. They all got Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. 

The Congress, attenuated by its losses in several state polls, is looking to gain a foothold in the Delhi polls. The party, which once ruled Delhi for 15 straight years, has failed to win a single seat in the last two polls. The Congress, which faced setbacks in Haryana and Maharashtra, will be hoping for a turnaround.

After being released on bail in the alleged liquor policy corruption case, Arvind Kejriwal resigned on moral grounds, saying he would not return as Chief Minister unless the people wished it and without a "certificate of honesty". He named Atishi as Chief Minister. In the run-up to polls, Mr Kejriwal said if his party is voted to power he will return as the Chief Minister.  

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party first came to power in 2013 with the outside support of the Congress. In 2015, as Congress withdrew support, elections took place again. The AAP swept the polls winning 67 seats. In 2020, the AAP won 62 seats. Now, in 2025, Arvind Kejriwal says his party will win 55 seats but the number could cross 60 if women get behind the party. Votes will be counted on February 8. 

President Droupadi Murmu voted in the Delhi elections 2025. The President cast her vote at the polling station in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya inside Rashtrapati Bhavan complex.

As voters in Delhi queued up to vote, a polling booth in the Vikaspuri assembly constituency attracted eyeballs with its unique decorations themed 'Chandrayan se chunav tak Bharat ki udaan'. Volunteers at the polling booth were seen dressed up as astronauts to assist voters in casting their votes. The ambience at the booth was also very space-themed with telescopes and bioscopes installed at the polling booth.

YouTuber Meghnad S is contesting as an Independent candidate from Malviya Nagar, where the political stage is set for a fierce battle between AAP's Somnath Bharti, and his BJP and Congress rivals, Satish Upadhyay and Jitender Kumar Kochar.

On voting was underway in Delhi polls, a furious Aam Aadmi Party claimed that promotional material for the opposition BJP had been found at some polling booths in the national capital, in violation of the Model Code of Conduct that is in force. ssuing a clarification, the police confirmed that some promotional material had been seized, but that it had been taken from booths set up by independent candidates and not those nominated by the BJP. Union home minister Amit Shah, the BJP's key strategist when it comes to elections, has said that the BJP's long exile in Delhi will end this time. Speaking to NDTV in an exclusive interview in the run-up to the polls, Mr Shah said the exile will end and the "BJP government will be formed".

Delhi Chief Minister and Kalkaji candidate Atishi raised more than Rs 40 lakh through crowdfunding for her election campaign. On completion of the target, Atishi informed that over 740 people contributed in her campaign.

Congress leader Alka Lamba faces AAP candidate and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in the Kalkaji constituency. BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri is the third candidate in the contest. 

A police case was filed against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a day before Delhi went to polls, over his allegations that Haryana is poisoning the waters of Yamuna. The case, filed in Haryana, accuses the Aam Aadmi Party chief under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A total of 699 candidates are contesting on the 70 assembly constituency seats of the national capital. Delhi has 1,56,14,000 registered voters, including 83,76,173 males, 72,36,560 females, and 1,267 third-gender voters. The electorate also includes 2,39,905 first-time voters aged 18-19, 1,09,368 elderly voters aged 85 and above, and 79,885 persons with disabilities.

Arvind Kejriwal faces stiff competition in his New Delhi seat. Mr Kejriwal emerged a giant slayer when he defeated Sheila Dikshit in 2013. Cut to present, he is up against BJP's Parvesh Verma and Sandeep Dikshit, both sons of former Delhi Chief Ministers Sahib Singh Verma and Sheila Dikshit, respectively. 

The Congress, which ruled the city for 15 straight years, has failed to win any seat in the last two elections. 

The BJP, out of power in the national capital for 28 years, is hoping for victory this time, powered by huge rallies led by PM Modi and an early start from its mammoth election machinery. The party has given two seats to its allies, Nitish Kumar's JDU and Chirag Paswan's Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas).
