In a shocking case in Delhi, a man allegedly killed and buried his newborn twin daughters after pretending to take them home, the police said today. His family has been accused of harassing his wife for not giving birth to a son.
Neeraj Solanki, the accused father, has been missing since the incident was reported to the police. His father - the twins' grandfather - has been arrested on murder charges.
Puja gave birth to the twins on May 30 in Rohtak, Haryana. When she was discharged from the hospital on June 1, her husband Neeraj allegedly took away the babies from her.
As she left for her father's house in one car, Neeraj told her he would follow in another car with the two babies. But his car changed route midway.
Puja's brother Jugnu tried contacting Neeraj, but he kept avoiding their calls.
A police complaint was filed two days later when Jugnu learnt that the babies were buried at a location in Delhi's outskirts called Pooth Kalan.
Puja, who married Neeraj in 2022, told cops her in-laws used to harass her over dowry and demand a baby boy. They were unhappy that twin girls were born instead, she said in her complaint.
Based on the complaint, the cops exhumed the bodies of the two babies on June 5 and sent them for autopsy. The cause of their death has not been established yet.
