Nearly five months after an Israeli diplomat's car was bombed in New Delhi, the Delhi Police on Tuesday filed a charge sheet in a local court, indicting Indian journalist Syed Mohammad Kazmi of conspiring with foreign elements and others for the terror strike.
The charge sheet filed before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav only contained the name of Kazmi, the sole person arrested in the case for the February 13 attack in which an Israeli woman diplomat and her Indian driver were injured.
Kazmi has been charged under various provisions of the anti-terror law, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including the attempt to murder.
He has also been charge-sheeted under the provisions of the Explosive Substances Act.
The diplomat, Tal Yehoshua and the driver of the embassy vehicle, were among four people injured in the blast. Kazmi was arrested on March 6.
The charge sheet also names Iranian nationals Houshang Afshar Irani, Masod Sedaghatzadeh, Syed Ali Mehdi Sadr and Mohammed Reza Abolghasemi as suspects in the case.
According to the charge sheet, Houshang Afshar Irani went to Bangkok and then to Kuala Lumpur, while Masod Sedaghatzadeh has been detained in Malaysia since March 14.
The court had earlier issued open warrants against all four of them.
According to the police, Afshar had visited India on April 25, 2011 and left the country on May 6, 2011. He had come back to India again on January 29, 2012, but left for Malaysia on February 13 evening, within hours after the attack on the Israeli diplomat here.
The agency had found that Afshar had stayed at a hotel named Hotel High 5 and an analysis of his mobile number had revealed that he had contacted Kazmi. The CCTV footage and other records of his stay at the hotel were seized by police and Kazmi was arrested on March 6.
The scooter purchased by Afshar, which was used in the recce of the Israeli embassy, too was seized from Kazmi's house.
The agency has also said the material used for preparing the explosive device was recovered from the ceiling of the hotel room in which Afshar had stayed and the CFSL had confirmed its similarity with the material recovered from the blast site.
The prosecution had said the records revealed that Kazmi was in contact with the other accused persons.
