The accused was arrested for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl on July 15
New Delhi:
A serial killer accused of sexually assaulting and murdering as many as 30 children was slapped outside a court in Delhi today.
Ravindra Kumar, 24, was attacked by a group of men dressed as lawyers.
Earlier, the court sent Kumar to judicial custody and rejected an appeal for extending his police custody.
He was arrested last week for allegedly killing a six-year-old girl.
Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav asked the police what they had done in the last seven days.
Police said they had been collecting evidence and corroborating Kumar's confessions. Kumar has admitted to being involved in 27 incidents so far, they said.
Kumar told the court that he feared for his life in jail, upon which the judge told him to inform the jail superintendent about threats.
Kumar, who is from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh but lives in Delhi, has admitted to raping and murdering more than 30 children in and around the city since 2008. He said he used to lure children with candies.
After his arrest, Kumar had shown no remorse and said had he not been caught, he would have continued targeting more children.
"I used to drink and commit this crime... I felt bad but the next time I drank I did it again," he said, blaming alcohol for his actions.
Asked why he murdered the children, Kumar told NDTV, "They made too much noise."
