New Delhi:
Independence Day did not mean freedom from traffic woes today in Delhi. As people moved towards Red Fort to hear the first I-Day address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, police went into an overdrive.
Roads were blocked and cars were stopped at random. Even vehicles with proper authorization and passes were not allowed. There were widespread complaints of people being harassed.
But it was not just the surrounding areas of Red Fort that were hit.
The entire Lutyens' Delhi was blocked off since 6 am, no vehicles were allowed to go in or out.
Three alternate routes had been chosen for the Prime Minister, who visited Raj Ghat on his way to the Red Fort - all three routes were off limits for commuters.
The worst-hit were the ones who had to take a train from the Old Delhi Railway Station.
People took to Twitter and Facebook in disgust.
