Paris: Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar hit out at the developed nations on Tuesday in Paris at the Climate Change Summit. "India is disappointed at the low level of support by developed countries," he said.
Speaking at a joint press conference of the BASIC countries - Brazil, South Africa, India and China - Mr Javadekar said that the developed nations need to "first implement the convention principles (that the rich nations should do more) and then move to the next step."
Mr Javadekar said the "simple logic that the haves provide to the have-nots should prevail." The BASIC countries also attacked the rich nations' poor contribution to the Green Climate Fund, accepting India's audit that the developed nations paid "only a fraction of what they claim."
The others in the group also accepted that the rich nations paid just two billion dollars compared to their claim of having paid 62 billion dollars. By now, the fund that was set up in 2010 should have been at least 500 billion dollars, they said.
