Mumbai:
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized a consignment of 26 premium Swiss watches and medicines from the toilet of an Air India flight from Abu Dhabi at the Chattrapati Shivaji international airport in Mumbai.
The Franck Muller watches and drugs, concealed in a niche in the toilet of the Air India Airbus, were seized on Monday night, a DRI official said on Wednesday.
"There were in all 26 watches, of which 16 were diamond-studded, while packets of an anti-cancer drug and steroids were also found," he said.
While the value of each diamond-studded watch is said to be over Rs 10 lakh, the drugs were valued at about Rs 70 lakh.
"We are still in the process of identifying the suspects," he said, adding DRI officials were working on certain specific leads.
The search was conducted after all passengers had disembarked, he said and declined to divulge whether DRI had been tipped off about the presence of the consignment.
Involvement of maintenance staff could not be ruled out, he said.
