Mumbai:
National investigation teams are now carrying out investigations in eight cities across the country and more details are emerging every day on the terror plot targeting India and involving American David Headley and Canadian of Pakistani origin Tahawwur Rana.
Rana was running an immigration racket, which he may have used to recruit for the Lashkar from India. He had issued an ad in a leading Indian daily inviting people for immigration. (Read: Rana-Headley puzzle: Visa racket in India)
The advertisements were booked at an agency, Prachar, in Matunga, Central Mumbai. Headley is believed to have approached this agency to book ads inviting people to migrate.. Investigators suspect this was a front for recruiting Laskar-e-Taiba members from India.
The most recent application sent by the FBI to a court in Chicago seeking an extension of Rana's custody says that Rana was trying to get people into the US using fake credentials by exploiting a loophole in the immigration procedure.
