Digvijay Singh questions Batla encounter
Azamgarh: Congress leader Digvijay Singh, speaking in Azamgarh, has questioned the Batla House encounter that took place in Delhi last year between the police and alleged suspects in the Delhi serial bombings.

Singh said that he himself had raised doubts over the encounter and had apprised the Prime Minister with his suspicions.

"Batla house encounter is being discussed again and again. We are sad with the incident in which two youths and a policeman were killed," he said.

Digvijay Singh's visit to Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh sparked off a huge controversy, especially after the Uttar Pradesh arrested a third man behind the Delhi serial blasts from there.

While Singh insisted he's merely going there on a fact-finding mission, the Ulema Council of clerics called the visit an eyewash.

He was shown black flags by members of the Ulema Council as he arrived there to console the families whose wards have been arrested in connection with terror-related incidents in the last two years.

The Ulema Council was formed in the backdrop of Batla House encounter just before the Lok Sabha elections last year.

The visit also kicked up a political storm with the BJP accusing the Congress of using terror to play vote bank politics.
