Digvijaya hits back, says why did Advani call Karkare a traitor?

New Delhi: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who has kicked up a storm over his remarks on slain Maharashtra ATS chief Hement Karkare, killed in the Mumbai attacks, took on the Opposition.

"Advaniji, Ravishankarji and Rajnath Singh should first answer as to why they had called Hemant Karkare ji a traitor? They should answer as to why Advaniji led a delegation to the Prime Minister in support of Pragya Thakur and Dayanand Pandey," Digvijaya Singh said.

The BJP has, however, vehemently denied Digvijaya's charges.

"Advani ji and Rajnath ji never called Karkare a traitor. I don't know what's wrong with Mr Digvijaya Singh's memory. First he says Karkare called him, then he says he called Karkare. Mr Antulay also made similar remarks. He and the Congress party have been exposed by WikiLeaks," senior BJP leader Chandan Mitra said.

Digvijaya Singh had said on Friday that Karkare's life was under threat as he took on Hindu radical groups over their alleged role in the Malegaon blasts.

The BJP had slammed Digvijaya Singh on Saturday for his remarks but the senior Congress leader was adamant that the BJP had leant its support to these very groups.

The Congress has, however, distanced itself from the controversy.
