Dikshit tells schools not to create panic over swine flu
New Delhi:
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday advised school authorities not to create panic by shutting down schools in case any of its students test positive for swine flu.

"The closing down the school will also create a panic, which is not necessary," Dikshit told reporters while reacting to the reports of various schools asking the students to go on leave.

She however, felt that it was the discretion of parents to send their children to school or not.

"If parents don't want to send their ward (let them) not send them to school. The choice is with them. But we do not want to create a situation of panic which is not there", Dikshit said.

The Delhi Health Department has already issued advisories to private schools informing them about precautions needed to be taken to prevent spread of the disease among students.

Last week St Thomas School had asked a section of VII class to go on precautionary leave after a VII class student was tested positive for the flu.

Sardar Patel Vidyalaya had also asked some students and teachers to go on leave following reports of a student being affected by the disease.

The Springdales School in Pusa Road had also asked students of standards VI and IX to remain at home till July 22.
