Blog: Kanimozhi steals the show. An image building exercise?
The DMK's biggest offensive against the ruling AIADMK turned into Kanimozhi's first major public event after her release from jail. It put her in the limelight at her home turf, Chennai, as her father and DMK Chief Karunanidhi chose to be at home. The spotlight instead switched to his daughter dear who led the DMK's jail bharo at Saidapet in the heart of the city.
Traffic congestion has now eased at Saidapet, Chennai. Kanimozhi and DMK cadre arrested with her have been taken to YMCA College of Physical Education.
Traffic has been disrupted and diverted at Chennai's Arcot Road, Rangarajapuram, Nandanam and Saidapet.
MP Kanimozhi spoke to the media, after she courted arrest at around 10 am. Kanimozhi joined the protestors at Saidapet, from where she was arrested.

She said the AIADMK was indulging vindictive politics from day one and this jail bharo was DMK's answer to that vendetta politics. "DMK leaders are being arrested without any proof," she said. She also added that the AIADMK will be routed in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Traffic has been diverted at Chennai's Kamarajar Road, Greenways Road and RA Puram.

Son of DMK chief Karunanidhi, MK Stalin courts arrest at Kolathur.

Kanimozhi courts arrest.
MP Kanimozhi leaves her residence to go to Saidapet to participate and court arrest. Many DMK members have carried extra clothes in bags and suitcases for use in jail.
DMK cadre have begun gathering in around twenty locations in Chennai for the jail bharo movement. Dozens of buses have been kept ready by the police to arrest these people. Traffic has already slowed down at Saidapet where MP Kanimozhi is slated to join the protests. Dayanidhi Maran will court arrest outside Chennai's Ezhilagam.

Survivor's guide to Chennai traffic during DMK protest
If you are wondering how rush hour traffic in Chennai will be hit by the DMK's 'fill the jails' agitation, here are some pointers.
Today's jail bharo will disrupt traffic on many roads. This is a map of routes to avoid in Chennai.

DMK Chief Karunanidhi is unlikely to participate in the agitation. His son, M K Stalin would join the protest from his constituency outside Chennai. Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi who is out on bail in the 2G case has obtained court permission to join the protest. With space in Tamil Nadu jails  being a major constraint it's not clear yet whether police would remand DMK protesters or would release them in the evening.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is in Ooty. In the past she has claimed that the arrests were on the basis of genuine complaints.
The DMK in Tamil Nadu is staging a jail bharo protest today against the ruling AIADMK government's what it calls repressive regime and political vendetta. This after many of its senior leaders and hundreds of party cadre were put behind bars on land grab charges.

Around 50,000 party cadres are expected to court arrest, blocking roads. The party has asked them to not apply for bail.
