DNA Match Proves It's Sheena Bora's Corpse, Say Police

The Mumbai police had exhumed remains of the body, believed to be that of Sheena Bora's, in Raigad on August 28.

New Delhi: A skull and parts of bones discovered days ago in a forest near Mumbai have been established as that of Sheena Bora's by extensive DNA tests, claims the Mumbai police.

Ms Bora was last seen alive in April 2012. Through her life, she was introduced as the younger sister of Indrani Mukerjea, who, it has been revealed, is actually her mother, and is now in jail for allegedly murdering the 24-year-old in Mumbai.

The police say Ms Mukerjea's DNA samples were collected after she was arrested earlier this month from the home she shares with second husband Peter Mukerjea, whose son, Rahul, was engaged to Ms Bora.

On August 28, the police exhumed a skull and other parts of a corpse that they said belonged to Ms Bora. The police claims Ms Mukerjea, her first husband Sanjeev Kjanna, and her driver Shyam Rai strangled Ms Bora, then kept her body overnight at the Mukerjea residence before driving it to the forests of Raigad the next morning where it was set on fire.

Police sources say that Ms Mukerjea was entrenched in a bitter financial dispute with Ms Bora at the time of her death. Ms Mukerjea, 43, a former media executive, swings between stating that her daughter is alive in the US, and confessing to the murder, claim police sources.

Yesterday, she was taken to her home as the police tried for a second time to reconstruct the crime. Peter Mukerjea, who has been extensively interrogated, was at the house when his wife was brought there.
