New Delhi: The Central Information Commissioner (CIC) will today hear a case on the allotment status of house number 6, Krishna Menon Marg in New Delhi, which was the residence of senior Congress leader Babu Jagjivan Ram till he died in 1986 and was later allotted to his daughter, Speaker Meira Kumar when she was appointed a Union Minister in 2004.
Answers under the Right to Information Act (RTI) to queries made by activist Subhash Agarwal, show that Ms Kumar's family owes the government Rs 1.98 crore in rent for occupying the bungalow even after Ms Kumar was given a bungalow on Akbar Road when she became Speaker in 2009.
The Speaker's office has claimed that her family does not live in the Krishna Menon Marg bungalow any more and that it now functions as a memorial to Babu Jagjivan Ram.
The government had, in 2000, decided not to allow for any bungalows to be turned into memorials in the New Delhi zone.
