Amritsar: An Air India flight to Dubai was held up at the Amritsar international airport for three hours on Wednesday, after the pilot spotted a dog on the runway.

Airport sources told NDTV Air India flight IX192 with 179 passengers on board to Dubai on the runway when the dog was seen there. The flight was halted and could only take off after a long delay following a thorough inspection of the runway area by the airport authorities.

Animals on the runway can cause serious accidents.

Earlier this month, an aircraft had skidded off the runway in Jabalpur after it hit a group of wild boars. The pilot had spotted the boars on the runway as soon as the plane touched down and immediately applied the brakes averting a major accident and preventing harm to the 49 passengers on board. The plane, however, was damaged in the collision.
