The girls's body being taken to hospital by locals
In an incident both shocking and heart-rending, stray dogs were found eating the dead body of an abandoned newborn girl child in the premises of a government medical college in Yavatmal, Maharashtra.
The hospital authorities say they do not know where the body of the two-day-old infant came from. She was not born at this hospital, they claim.
"There is a chance that she was born at some other hospital or is from another area. Our campus is so huge it's possible no one noticed when she was brought her." a senior doctor said.
Local Shiv Sena workers discovered the dogs attacking the body near a toilet in the hospital and said say they shooed the animals away and then handed the small, mutilated body to the hospital authorities.
The police have registered a case and say they are investigating to find out who the parents are and who left the child at the hospital.
The hospital is treating another abandoned newborn girl, found abandoned six km away in a village. Doctors say she is recovering.
