Dow, Sensex end week on a high

New Delhi: The Dow and Sensex ended the week with a bang. The Dow stood at a 12-month high, while the Sensex gained almost three per cent.

Indian shares stretched a winning streak to a fourth day on Friday, with rising foreign portfolio inflows underpinning the market.

The BSE index closed up 0.18 per cent, or 30.19 points, at 16,741.30 points. It gained 2.9 per cent on the week, its third rise in four weeks.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 36 points, or 0.4 per cent. The blue-chip average closed at its highest point since October 6, 2008, on positive brokerage comments.

Investors bet the economic recovery will be strong enough to sustain corporate profits.

The major indexes have now risen in nine of the last 11 sessions.
