New Delhi:
It is a wake up call for those who mix drinking with driving as they may end up losing their licence.
The city government on Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that it has framed the guidelines for revocation of driving licence for people who are caught drunk while driving.
A bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Muralidhar accepted the guidelines and asked the government to issue notification within a month.
The guidelines, which were placed before the court, say that in case of drunken driving the violators' licence shall be taken into possession and the proceedings would be initiated for disqualification or revocation of driving licence.
The government framed the guidelines on the direction of the court, which on October 7 had asked it to do so to curb the growing number of road accidents caused by drunken driving.
The court had asked the government to keep a strict vigil at the bars, and to conduct uniform checks by the police particularly during the festival season.
