Srinagar: Tremors were felt in many parts of north India today after an earthquake in the Hindukush region, near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. However, there are no reports of any damage yet.
The tremors, lasting a few seconds, were experienced at around 5:30 this evening. The intensity of the earthquake was 5.5.
There was panic in Srinagar as people were celebrating Eid. An earthquake in 2005, centered near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border had caused extensive damage in Kashmir.
Mild tremors were also felt in many parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
Media reports say tremors were also felt in Peshawar, SWAT area on Afghanistan-Pakistan border and in Kabul.
