Mumbai:
An earthquake struck western Maharashtra on Saturday evening with epicentre close to Koyna Dam. According to initial reports, it had an intensity of 5 on the Richter Scale.
The tremors were felt in Sangli, Osmanabad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Pune, Solapur and parts of northern Mumbai.
The quake, which occurred around 5.21 PM, originated in Koyna region at a latitude of 17.2 degrees north and a longitude of 73.8 degrees east, the Met office said.
There were no immediate reports of any damage to life or property due to the quake, sources said.
In Mumbai, a number of people felt the mild tremors, and the police control room received several calls.
