East Godavari district ready to face cyclone: Collector

All precautionary measures have been taken to meet any eventuality arose out the cyclonic storm in East Godavari district, a key officer said on Wednesday.

East Godavari District Collector M Ravichandra, who held a high level meeting with the officials, said the weather department has predicted that prevailing cyclonic conditions will continue for further 48 hours in the district and the storm is likely to hit Andhra Pradesh coastline on Thursday evening.

He said all the precautionary measures have been taken to meet the eventuality. He alerted all the officials concerned and directed them to monitor the situation in the coast line.

The Collector asked to evacuate people in low-lying areas if needed.

Around 60 people of 14 families in Uppalaguptam Mandal, 300 persons in Katrakona mandal and 119 fishermen Tallarevu Mandal have been shifted to safer places, he said.
     
Swimmers, JCBs and police personnel have been kept ready in case of emergency, Ravichandra said.

The district collector Ravichandra told media persons all measures has been taken to protect the public lives properties.

An action plan has been prepared to face natural calamity with the help of cyclone officers in the coast line and low-lying areas in the district, the Collector said.

"We are monitoring the situation in the district with joint collector and officials. Since morning the district is experience heavy rains," Ravichandra said.
