Ghaziabad: Topics such as homosexuality or sex change are strictly taboo in the Sandhu household, but when P S Sandhu and his wife Ravindra Kaur stepped out to vote on Thursday they found that their sex has been changed!
The unsolicited service was done by the Election Commission.
Sandhu was least amused to find that he's a woman and his wife an 85-year-old man. At least, that's what the voters' list said about the couple in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
"It would've been great had they shown our age less than we actually are. But it's a case of sex change now," Sandhu told PTI, taking the Election Commission's insult in his stride.
Interestingly, the voter ID cards carried by the couple had their names, age and sex correct. The oddity was only in the voters' list in booth number 212.
But to the Election Commission's credit, the officials allowed the Sandhus to vote after they were satisfied that commonalities exist between the information in the ID card carried by them and the voters list.
This, however, is not the last such mix-up in a country where there are over 700 million registered voters.
Last heard, one Vipin Kumar of Loni assembly area was having a tough time convincing the polling officials that he wasn't Vijay Kumari!
