EC issues notice to Jaswant Singh

New Delhi:

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former foreign minister Jaswant Singh has run into trouble with the Election Commission.

Caught on camera, allegedly distributing money to voters, the EC has issued a notice to him for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Jaswant was caught on camera on Tuesday, distributing cash in his son Manvendra Singh's constituency of Barmer in Rajasthan.

The District Magistrate of Barmer had sent a detailed report and a video recording to the Election Commission.

Jaswant Singh in his defence had said that its his family tradition to help the needy and that's why he gave money to the woman in Barmer.

But speaking to NDTV on Thursday, Jaswant Singh said he was helping poor people in his constituency and does not regret what he did. Singh also said that he won't apologise because, in his words, "the law can be an ass".
