Lucknow: Underlining the importance of making women self-reliant, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said that his government was taking steps to make women economically self-sufficient.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of a joint initiative of the government and a Hindi daily, Akhilesh Yadav said that efforts were being made to also make students financially self-reliant through skill development mission in a large number.
He said that respect to women in the society could be ensured by making them self-reliant economically.
The CM said that after much consideration women head of the families were given priority in Samajwadi pension scheme and the money was being directly transferred to their accounts.
He said that his government has taken a number of measures to improve health indicators of women and children.
Akhilesh Yadav claimed that along with its own resources the government has been able to achieve major success in making women self-sufficient with the help of voluntary organisations like Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.
He said that the state has achieved a major success in maternal and neo-natal death rate.
On the occasion, the CM also felicitated 10 women for making important contributions in the field of women empowerment.
