BSP chief Mayawati on Tuesday blamed the "casteist" mindset of the Jat community of the state for the adverse Haryana assembly election results and advising them to change their mentality.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had fought the Haryana polls in alliance with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), the regional party.

The BJP stunned its rivals with its performance, winning the state polls for a third time in a row by bagging 48 seats, while the Congress managed 37 and the INLD scored victory on just two as three went to Independent candidates, according to the Election Commission.

"The way the atmosphere was in Haryana, it did not seem like it would be like this. The BJP was also not confident regarding the election results," said Tejashwi Yadav.

Peoples Democratic Party chief and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti congratulated the National Conference-Congress alliance on Tuesday for getting the "people's mandate."

She said that since the people have given a clear mandate, there is no chance for parties to "mess around," claiming that if there was a hung assembly then there could have been tricks which could have been used to "defeat the mandate of the people."

"I am happy that with how the people have voted, gadbad karna ka koi chance nahi hai ab (there is no chance to mess around now), it used to look like if the mandate was not clear then there could have arisen a lot of dirty tricks and there could have been talks of defeating the mandate of the people," she added.

"I am humbled by the mandate that we have got," Omar Abdullah tells NDTV.

"Not a single stain of corruption on Haryana government. We only worked for the development of people. And, I want to thank Chief Minister Nayab Saini and former Chief Minister ML Khattar," said PM Modi.

"Haryana is the country which initiated 'Beti bachao, beti padhao. When women are financially strong, it will benefit the whole family," said PM Modi

"Even today the Congress tried to mislead the people. The Congress has been doing this shamelessly," said PM Modi.

"Many state parties had to suffer because of Congress performance. It's a party which eats up its allies," said PM Modi.

"Haryana has given out a message to Congress. Every family of Haryana united to vote. In the last few years, many conspiracies are brewing to weaken the country. Congress is involved in this conspiracy. Haryana has rebutted this conspiracies," said PM Modi, adding, "Congress is a parasite."

"Congress insulted Dalits in Haryana. They said they will end reservation. The Congress wants to weaken the country which is why they try to instigate people. They tried to instigate farmers in Haryana but the farmers showed that they are with the country," said PM Modi

"The country is seeing how the Congress is dividing people over casteism. They oppressed Dalits and the marginalised. They will never let a dalit become a Prime Minister," said PM Modi.

"Haryana gave a hat-trick to the BJP because of the development works. Meanwhile, the Congress has not been granted a second-term recently. Once they were thrown out, they were not allowed to entry. People put up a no entry board for the Congress," said PM Modi.

"What happened in Haryana today is extraordinary. This is the first time that Haryana has given a third term to a party," said PM Modi.

"Haryana's win is the outcome of the BJP worker's hardwork, efforts made by JP Nadda. It's also because of Chief Minister Nayab Saini, Haryana has set a new record," said PM Modi

"I congratulate National Conference. The BJP is the biggest party in terms of vote-share in Jammu and Kashmir," said PM Modi.

"This is a win of development. This is the win of constitution and democracy," said PM Modi.

JP Nadda said thatt we "will win Jharkhand and also Delhi".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived at the BJP headquarters in Delhi as BJP celebrates record win in Haryana.

"Ultimately, in a democracy, what matters is what the people want. In J&K, as the BJP claims that there is a huge welcome for them after the events in the last 3-4 years, that is clearly not true. We've seen that there is an overwhelming reaffirmation of support for the NC-Congress alliance. We will form a stable and responsible government. The demand for statehood will intensify. As far as Haryana is concerned, it came as a surprise. For years, we have been hearing about how unhappy the people of the state are with the BJP rule and how eagerly they were waiting for our return. We have to analyse what went wrong and what didn't go as we had hoped," said Shashi Tharoor.

Jammu and Kashmir will not benefit from an "antagonistic relationship" with the BJP-led central government, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah told NDTV Tuesday, shortly after the NC-Congress won the 2024 J&K Assembly election.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP was able to retain power in Haryana because of people's faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "guarantees".

On the BJP emerging as the second largest party in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the result was an endorsement of the efforts to defeat "anti-national forces" and ensure peace and progress.

"Under the leadership of respected @narendramodi ji, @BJP4Haryana has succeeded in getting the blessings of the people for the third time," Mr Sarma posted on X.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "The people of Haryana have formed a double-engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I congratulate all the workers and the people of Haryana. I also congratulate the Chief Minister Nayab Saini."

The Haryana election result is a "big setback for the Congress", senior leader and one-time chief ministerial hopeful Kumari Selja told NDTV Tuesday afternoon. "...very disappointing," she said.

On Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir assembly election results, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, "What went wrong in Haryana will be discussed at the party level. Haryana is a state which gives priority to development, we have to obey the decision of the voters. We are confident of the INDIA alliance in Jammu and Kashmir and accordingly, we won. Voters have saved democracy."

The BJP is set to win a historic third straight term in Haryana in an election that many expected it to lose in face of massive anti-incumbency, anger among farmers and Jats, and over the Agniveer scheme.

Jannayak Janta Party leader Dushyant Chautala, a former coalition partner of the BJP, lost his Uchana Kalan seat in the Haryana polls, the votes for which were counted today.

BJP candidate Devender Chatar Bhuj Attri emerged the winner by a margin of just 32 votes, as per the Election Commission. He beat his nearest rival and Congress candidate and former IAS officer Brijendra Singh.

On Haryana election result, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, "We should never underestimate the maturity of our voters. The voters of Haryana have made it very clear now that they are voting for their stability and continuity and the development work that PM Modi has done in the last 10 years."

"AAP which is active in politics in Delhi had 90 seats in Haryana and 90 seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Only one of their MLAs won. They did not get any seats in Haryana and our vote share in this election in Haryana is more than in the last election. When the result does not come in favour of the Congress party, they fight with the EVM. Then they say that the Election Commission is delaying. The Election Commission has its own procedures," he added.

"I hope the Union Government doesn't play politics. I want to have a good healthy relationship," said Omar Abdullah.

It was a bittersweet day for the Aam Aadmi Party. As the Election Commission figures indicated that it may not win even a single seat in Haryana, the party found its silver lining in Jammu and Kashmir.

The fianl results of the J&K assembly polls have been declared with the alliance NC and Congress winning 48 seats, the BJP 29 and the PDP three. 

AAP's Mehraj Malik has handed the Arvind Kejriwal-led party its first-ever electoral win in Jammu and Kashmir.

Haryana Congress chief Uday Bhan has lost from the Hodal seat to BJP's Harinder Singh by 2,595 votes.

After trailing in the initial rounds of votes counting, senior BJP leader Anil Vij has won the Ambala Cantt seat in Haryana.

Mr Vij, the former Haryana home minister, defeated Independent candidate Chitra Sarwara by a margin of 7,277 votes.

He has won the Ambala Cantt assembly seat for the seventh time.

Former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister and Congress candidate Tara Chand has lost his traditional bastion of the Chhamb seat, which was won by rebel independent candidate Satesh Sharma with a margin of 6,929 votes.

The Congress party had won the Chhamb Assembly constituency seven out of the past nine elections since 1962.

Savitri Jindal, the Independent candidate who won from the Hisar assembly seat in Haryana, has carried out a roadshow after her victory.Ms Jindal, who is the mother of BJP's Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal and is currently the richest Indian woman, defeated her nearest rival and Congress candidate Ram Niwas Rana by 18,941 votes.

Congress' Jairam Ramesh has alleged that their victory was "snatched" from them in the Haryana assembly polls. 

"Results are against sentiment of people which was for change," he said at a press conference.

The Congress had taken a huge lead during the initial rounds of votes counting. However, the BJP then overtook the grand old party and is now set to retain the state for the record third straight term.

The National Conference and the Congress on Tuesday won the Jammu and Kashmir election - the first in the former state in a decade - defying exit poll predictions of a hung Assembly.

The alliance claimed 49 of the union territory's 90 elected legislature seats; five more will be nominated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha under a contentious new rule.

But it is the NC that has emerged, by a country mile, as the majority partner with 42 wins to the Congress' dismal six. The BJP - which has never ruled J&K on its own - finished with 29 seats, four more than it claimed in 2014 but fewer than Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party was expecting

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, "In Lok Sabha, we didn't lose to any opposition party, we lost to fake narratives but now we have found a solution to this, that is 'Thet' (factual) narrative. What we saw in Haryana will be repeated in Maharashtra."

The BJP is set to form government in Haryana for the third time in a row, defying exit poll predictions which gave Congress a comfortable majority. BJP's hat-trick in Haryana is significant after it lost five Lok Sabha seats to Congress in the General Elections that were held just six months ago.

Amid BJP's big win in Haryana, an archival picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigning in the state for BJP candidate, Devidas, in Sonepat, has gone viral. He is sitting on the stage, while a party leader is addressing the supporters.

The un-dated pictures shared by the 'Modi Archive', said "Narendra Modi has dedicated his entire life into building a vast support base from the ground up."

Congress MP Kumari Selja has reacted to her party losing in the Haryana assembly elections and said the results were "disappointing". 

"Until morning, we were hopeful. All our workers are upset, they have worked for the last 10 years for the Congress party and when such a result comes, there is a huge disappointment. We will have to make a fresh start and think about the shortcomings. We will have to see who all are responsible for such a result," she told reporters.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will get another term at the top post, leaders of the BJP have said, ending days of speculation on the subject. 

Though the BJP leadership had made it clear ahead of the election that Mr Saini will remain in the top post in case of a victory, there had been speculation about a change in view of his short stint and the caste angle. Mr Saini is a member of the other backward classes in a state that have mostly being led by Jats from the top post.

Mr Saini won the Ladwa assembly seat by a margin of 16,054 votes against his nearest Congress rival Mewa Singh.

Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala has lost from the Ellenabad assembly seat in Haryana.

Mr Chautala, the outgoing MLA, was defeated by Congress' Bharat Singh Beniwal by a margin of 15,000 votes.

Arvind Kejriwal has spoken to Mehraj Malik, the AAP candidate who won in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda Assembly seat and opened party's account in a fifth state.

Sharing the clip of a video call on X, Mr Kejriwal called Mr Malik the "AAP’s star of the day".

The AAP, which is ruling Punjab and Delhi, also has MLAs in Gujarat and Goa.

Turning the Congress narrative of kisan (farmers), pehelwan (wrestlers) and jawan (youth) on its head, Union Minister and former Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that the opposition party can never do what the BJP has done for these groups. This, he said, was one of the reasons his party was headed for a record third straight win in Haryana.

On whether Nayab Singh Saini would be remain the chief minister, Mr Khattar said, "Our high command and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had clearly made this announcement. Still, the process is that it is in the hands of the parliamentary board and, I think, that is how it will continue."

Congress leader and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has retained his Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat in Rohtak district, defeating his nearest BJP rival by a margin of 71,465 votes.

National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah has won the party's bastion of Ganderbal in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election, shortly after winning the Budgam seat. 

He secured 32,727 votes and defeated PDP's Bashir Ahmad Mir, his nearest rival, by over 10,000 votes.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has won the Ladwa assembly seat by a margin of 16,054 votes against his nearest Congress rival Mewa Singh.

The National Conference-Congress alliance is set to form a new government in Jammu and Kashmir after it touched the majority mark of 46 seats. While the NC secured 40 seats, Congress got six of the total 90 assembly seats.

In Haryana, the BJP has so far won 20 seats and is ahead on 30 seats in the 90-member assembly. The Congress has won 15 and is leading in 20.

The alliance of the National Conference and Congress has so far won 45 seats in Jammu and Kashmir, which is the halfway mark. The BJP, on the other hand, has secured 27 seats of the total 90 seats, while the PDP has won three. Mehraj Malik has handed the AAP a first-ever electoral win in Jammu and Kashmir.

The AAP workers have started celebrations at the party office in Delhi as the party opened its account in the Jammu and Kashmir elections with party candidate Mehraj Malik winning from the Doda Assembly seat.

Union Minister and senior BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar has said the people of Haryana have "rejected" Congress as election results trends showed that his party is headed for a third straight term in the state.

"The public has given this message that the policies of PM Modi had a positive impact on the people of the state. This is a record in Haryana that a party has come to power for the third time..," Mr Khattar, the former Haryana chief minister, told reporters.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has reacted to the BJP leading in the assembly election and said he will move forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

"I will go to take the certificate and then offer prayers to Lord Krishna at Jyotisar temple. The 2.80 crore people of Haryana have chosen this government and we will move forward under the leadership of PM Modi," he told reporters as the BJP looked set to retain the state for the third term.

On the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election result trends, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said this has been the "BJP's best performance so far". 

"We have won 29 seats and we are expected to win more. We contested this election purely on the issue of development... We tried to rise above caste, creed, and religion and gave a new culture to this election," he told reporters.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina has lost the Nowshera assembly seat to NC's Surinder Choudhary by a margin of 7,819 votes.

Three independent candidates have so far registered victory in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls. In Inderwal, Payare Lal Sharma defeated veteran leader Gulam Mohammad Saroori by a narrow margin of 643 votes, while in Bani, Rameshwar Singh won by 2,048 votes.

In the Surankote assembly seat, National Conference rebel Choudhary Mohammad Akram defeated Congress candidate Mohammad Shahnawaz with a margin of 8,851 votes.

Haryana Elections: Around 9 am, one hour after the counting of votes for Haryana Assembly polls began, the Congress had surged far ahead of the BJP. Jalebis were being distributed in the Congress headquarters in Delhi, dhols were out and the BJP office was deserted. 

But an hour later, the tables turned and the BJP was back in the game. Two more hours later, the BJP was firmly ahead and appeared headed for its biggest win in Haryana, defying exit poll predictions by a wide margin. Now the BJP headquarters was abuzz, with laddoos, jalebis and the works. Congress leaders hoped against hope for a turnaround in what had initially been a see-saw battle. Several rounds of counting are still left, but the picture is unlikely to change a lot.

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala's son, Aditya Surjewala, won from Haryana's Kaithal seat. The 25-year-old will be the youngest MLA in the Haryana assembly in 25 years.

Six ministers from Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's cabinet have failed to win in Haryana. Ranjit Chautala from Rania, Subhash Sudha from Thanesar, Dr Kamal Gupta from Hisar, Gyanchand Gupta from Panchkula, Kanwarpal Gurjar from Jagadhari and Sanjay Singh from Nuh, lost the election. 

The National Conference-Congress alliance looks set to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir, which is seeing its first Assembly elections in 10 years, but the scale of the victory has also eclipsed smaller parties that made several headlines in the run-up to the polls. 

This year's Assembly polls saw the re-entry of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami in the election process after decades of calling for their boycott and all eyes had been on how its candidates would perform. The interest was heightened after the Awami Ittehad Party of Engineer Rashid, who had defeated National Conference Vice-President and former chief minister Omar Abdullah in the Lok Sabha elections, entered into a "strategic alliance" with the Jamaat.

Congress's Bhupinder Hooda addressed the party workers and claimed that they are getting a majority in the state and alleged that the Election Commission is not updating the data on the site. The poll body has denied the allegations made by the party. 

BJP is leading on 50 seats in Haryana, while Congress is at 34. Counting of votes is still underway.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has congratulated the alliance of the Congress and National Conference for its "outstanding performance". 

"I also congratulate the people of Jammu and Kashmir for voting for a stable government," she said. 

Her party is headed towards one of its worst performances and is likely to win just two assembly seats, down from 28 in 2014 assembly polls.

Hours after the Congress raised with the Election Commission the issue of an "unexplained slowdown" in updating of results of Haryana elections on its website, the poll body said it rejects the party's attempt to "surreptitiously give credence to irresponsible, unfounded and uncorroborated malafide narratives."

"Approximately, 25 rounds across all the constituencies are being updated every five minutes,

which testifies dissemination of counting process in a speedy manner," the poll body said in a reply to Congress' Jairam Ramesh's letter.

National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah has won the Budgam assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir, defeating the PDP's Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi by a margin of more than 18,000 votes.

Mr Abdullah, who is also leading from the family bastion of Ganderbal, secured 36,010 votes in Budgam, while the PDP leader got 17,525 votes.

He had earlier lost the 2024 Parliamentary polls from the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat. He was defeated by independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid who was then lodged in the Tihar Jail under terror-funding charges.

In Jammu and Kashmir's 90 seats, the BJP has so far won ten, while the National Conference (NC) has secured eight. The NC's ally Congress has got one seat, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken one.

Available leads show that the BJP is ahead in 19 seats and the NC-Congress is leading in 38.

In Haryana, the BJP has so far won three seats in the 90-member assembly and is leading in 45. The Congress has also secured three seats and is ahead in 34.

NC leader Sakeena Masood has won the DH Pora assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir. He defeated her nearest PDP rival Gulzar Dar by over 17,000 votes.

“Omar Abdullah will become the next chief minister," National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah announced today after strong showing in the J&K polls.

Mr Abdullah has secured an unassailable lead of over 16,000 votes against PDP candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi in the Budgam seat.

With just one round of counting to go, he has secured 32,344 votes.

Mr Abdullah, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, is also leading from the family bastion of Ganderbal by a margin of over 5,000 votes over PDP candidate Bashir Ahmad Mir.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has congratulated Mehraj din Malik, the party candidate from the Doda seat in Jammu and Kashmir, for the "landslide victory". 

"You fought a very good election. Congratulations to the entire Aam Aadmi Party on getting an MLA in the fifth state," Mr Kejriwal posted on X.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini continues his lead over Congress' Mewa Singh in the Ladwa Assembly constituency. He is now leading by a margin of 13,189 votes.

Congress candidate and Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat has won from the Julana seat in Haryana. She secured more than 65,000 votes.

The Aam Aadmi Party that is heading for a massive setback in Haryana, may open its account in Jammu and Kashmir. Its candidate Mehraj Malik is leading against BJP's Gajay Singh Rana by over 4,000 votes.

Delhi minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai says, "Different trends are being seen as of now. I think, everyone who knows the ground report is waiting for the final results. I think, only after seeing the final results it will be clear who is getting."

Congress candidate Aftab Ahmed has won from the Nuh constituency in Haryana. He received 91,833 votes and won the seat by nearly 47,000 votes.

NC's Tanvir Sadiq has won the Zadibal seat in Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, securing 16,173 more votes than his nearest rival.

BJP's Arvind Gupta has won the Jammu West assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir. He defeated his nearest rival, a Congress candidate, by 22,127 votes.

Congress' Vinesh Phogat, an Olympic wrestler, is currently ahead of her BJP rival Yogesh Kumar in Julana seat in Haryana's Jind district by 5,231 votes. She has so far received 57,998 votes, while Mr Kumar has got 52,767.

National Conference's Salman Sagar has won the Hazratbal assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir. He polled over 18,000 votes and defeated his nearest rival, a PDP candidate, by 10,295 votes.

The BJP has won another seat in Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. BJP's Ranbir Singh Pathania won the Udhampur East seat by 2,349 votes.

India's richest woman, Savitri Jindal, who is contesting as an Independent from Haryana's Hisar constituency after the BJP denied her ticket, is currently leading.  

The two-time MLA from Hisar and former Haryana minister has so far polled 21,113 votes and is leading her nearest rival and Congress' Ram Niwas Rara by more than 7,300 votes. 

Kamal Gupta, the BJP nominee, has received 7,269 votes and is on the third spot.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is contesting from the Ladwa seat in Kurukshetra, is leading by a margin of 10,562 votes over his Congress rival and sitting MLA Mewa Singh.

Congress has now complained to the Election Commission on the Haryana assembly results, alleging an "unexplained slowdown" in updating of trends on its website.

"Slowdown in updating results allows bad faith actors to spin narratives that undermine process," Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said in a letter to the EC.

He claimed that between 9 am and 11 am, there has been "unexplained slowdown" in updating of Haryana results on the EC results website.

The latest trends show that the BJP is set for its biggest win in Haryana, while the Congress-NC alliance may form a government in Jammu and Kashmir.

While the BJP is ahead on 48 seats in Haryana, two above the majority mark, the Congress and the NC are leading in 52 in J&K, well above the majority mark of 46.

The BJP and the National Conference have won one seat each in Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. While BJP's Darshan Kumar won by over 16,000 votes from Basohli against Congress' Choudhary Lal Singh, NC's Nazir Ahmad Khan won by a margin of 1,132 votes from Gurez (ST).

Congress' Jairam Ramesh has alleged that there was a slowing down in uploading trends for the Haryana assembly polls on the Election Commission website.

In a post on X, he said, "Like the Lok Sabha elections, in Haryana we are again witnessing slowing down of uploading up-to-date trends on the ECI website." 

"Is the BJP trying to build pressure on administration by sharing outdated and misleading trends @ECISVEEP?" Mr Ramesh said.

He later said he will lodge a complaint.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address BJP workers at the party's headquarters in Delhi. The BJP is currently eyeing a record third straight term in Haryana.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress president Vikar Rasool Wani is currently behind NC candidate Sajad Saheen in the Banihal assembly segment. While Mr Wani has got 15,010 votes, Mr Saheen has got 24,417 votes.

J&K People Conference president Sajad Gani Lone is now leading from the Handwara constituency by a margin of 1,175 votes after six rounds of counting. He, however, is trailing by nearly 13,000 votes in Kupwara, the second assembly seat from where he contested the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala is currently trailing Congress' Bharat Singh Beniwal by a margin of 6,346 votes, the latest trends showed.

His son and INLD candidate Arjun Chautala is leading from the Rania seat over his grand uncle and Independent candidate Ranjit Chautala by 6,161 votes.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to get off the mark in Haryana. The party led by former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had contested 89 of Haryana's 90 seats.

Speaking on the assembly election result trends, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said it is a "genuine surprise" to see the BJP leading in Haryana.

"We have to wait and see...We shouldn't make a premature conclusion right now...At the moment, they (BJP) seem to be leading in a majority of the seats (in Haryana) which is a genuine surprise. Certainly, the whole exit poll industry must be in a deep disgrace...Honestly, let us wait for the final results...My own feeling is that the signs in Haryana are not what we were expecting and are better than what INDIA bloc was expecting in Jammu and Kashmir," he told reporters.

J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra is now leading from the Central Shalteng assembly constituency by a margin of 8,758 votes, after six rounds of counting.

PDP leader Iltija Mufti, who is currently trailing by more than 4,300 votes against NC's Bashir Ahmad Veeri in the Srigufwara–Bijbehara assembly constituency, has said that she accepts the "verdict of the people".

Taking to her official X account, Ms Mufti, the daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, said, "The love and affection I received from everyone in Bijbehara will always stay with me. Gratitude to my PDP workers who worked so hard throughout this campaign."

Former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister and Congress leader Tara Chand, who has so far polled 2,761 votes in the Chhamb seat, is far behind Independent candidate Satesh Sharma, who has got 17,800 votes.

Rajeev Sharma, the BJP candidate from the seat, has got 13,137 votes.

After pointing to a comfortable victory for the Congress, leads for Haryana are now showing that the BJP is set to retain the state. While celebrations began outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi even before the counting started, with party supporters dancing as dhols were being played, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence that the BJP will form the government in Haryana for the third straight time.

After leading in initial rounds of counting, Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat is now trailing from the Julana assembly seat in Haryana's Jind district.

The wrestler is trailing by 3,641 votes to BJP's Yogesh Kumar, who has so far received 19,218 votes.

After initially surging ahead in Haryana, the Congress has now fallen behind BJP. As per the latest trends, the BJP is leading in 46 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 37.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to start.

Early rounds of counting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir point to good news for the Congress and its ally National Conference.

While the NC is currently leading in 39 seats, the COngress is ahead in eight. The BJP, on the other hand, is leading in 28 seats, while its former ally PDP is ahead in four. 

Congress' Bhupinder Singh Hooda has continued his lead over his nearest rival, BJP's Manju, in Haryana's Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. He is now ahead by 22,182 votes after 4/17 rounds of counting, as per the data available on the EC website.

JJP leader Dushyant Chautala is trailing from the Uchana Kalan assembly seat in Haryana. According to Election Commission of India trends, Mr Chautala, a former deputy chief minister of Haryana, has polled 1,624 votes and is currently at the sixth spot.

Congress' Brijendra Singh is leading in Uchana Kalan by a margin of 1,188 votes from his nearest rival and BJP candidate Devender Chatar Bhuj Attri.

"I am confident that Congress will win around 65 assembly seats and form the government in Haryana. In J&K, JKNC and Congress alliance will cross the majority mark and I am confident that those who are against BJP will also ally with the Congress-JKNC alliance. We are forming the government in J&K and Haryana," Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said today.

Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan is currently leading from the Hodal assembly seat in the state, the latest trends on the Election Commission website showed.

Mr Bhan was leading by a margin of 1,919 votes from his nearest rival and BJP's Harinder Singh.

Congress candidate and Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat has now extended her lead to 214 from the Julana assembly seat in Haryana's Jind district. 

She has so far received 214 votes as against her nearest rival and BJP candidate Yogesh Kumar's 3,900.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is now leading by 840 votes from the Ladwa assembly seat against his nearest rival and Congress nominee Mewa Singh. According to the Election Commission, Mr Saini has so far polled 8,182 votes.

Iltija Mufti, the daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, is trailing by 1,847 votes against NC's Bashir Ahmad Veeri in the Srigufwara–Bijbehara assembly constituency.

Apni Party founder Altaf Bukhari is trailing in Jammu and Kashmir's Chanapora constituency where NC's Mushtaq Guroo has taken a lead.

In Haryana, there is now a close fight between the BJP and the Congress. Initials trends, that showed the Congress crossing the half mark of 46, now show the party is leading on 42 seats. The BJP, on the other hand, is ahead on 43.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress and the National Conference (NC) alliance is currently leading on 49 seats, while the BJP is ahead on 25.

PDP leader Waheed Para has taken a lead in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama seat, the latest trends available on the EC website showed.

BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit president Ravinder Raina is currently trailing from the Nowshera seat.

Ahead of the commencement of counting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir, he performed a 'yagya' today morning and expressed confidence the party would secure a majority and form a government.

People's Conference's Sajad Gani Lone is currently leading from the Handwara seat. He, however, is traling in Kupwara, the second assembly seat from where he contested the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir elections.

NC's Omar Abdullah has now extended his leads from the Ganderbal and Budgam seats in Jammu and Kashmir, according to latest trends available on the Election Commission website.

According to early trends, Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala is ahead from his Ellenabad constituency.

Former Haryana Minister and senior BJP leader Anil Vij is currently trailing from his Ambala Cantt seat, according to early trends.

According to initial trends, the Congress-NC alliance has crossed the majority mark of 46 seats in Jammu and Kashmir and is currently leading on 48.

The BJP, on the other hand, is ahead on 26 seats.

According to initial trends available from 89 of the 90 seats in Haryana, Congress is leading on 53 seats -- the majority mark is 46 --while the BJP was ahead on 30. The INLD was leading on three seats, while the AAP is yet to start.

Early trends from the counting of votes show the Congress ahead in Haryana, and its alliance with National Conference leading in Jammu and Kashmir. 

Congress workers have started distributing laddoos at the party headquarters in Delhi as early trends show the party leading in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah spoke to reporters today as the first leads showed the Congress-NC alliance ahead in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, and said they "are hopeful of victory".

""We are hopeful of victory, rest is on God," he said.

Congress' Vinesh Phogat is currently ahead in Julana seat in Haryana, initial trends show.

NC leader Omar Abdullah, who is fighting from the Budgam and Ganderbal in Jammu and Kashmir, is currently leading from both the assembly seats.

In Haryana, the Congress has extended its lead to 32 seats, while the BJP has dropped to 19, latest trends from the counting of votes show.

In J&K, BJP is ahead on 18 seats and Congress-NC alliance on 14.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP is now leading on 18 seats, while the Congress-National Conference alliance is ahead on 13.

Early trends from the counting of votes show the Congress was ahead on 28 seats, and the BJP on 20 in Haryana.

In Haryana, where the polling for the 90 seats was held on October 5, the Congress is ahead in very early leads. Various exit polls have predicted a clear majority for the Congress in the state. 

In Jammu and Kashmir, which voted in three phases (September 18, September 25, and October 1) and also has 90 assembly constituencies, the early leads point to a close fight between the BJP and the alliance of Congress and the National Conference (NC).

According to the latest results trends, Congress is currently ahead in Haryana and J&K.

First assembly poll results trends show that the BJP is ahead in J&K, while Congress is leading in Haryana.

Postal ballots will be counted first for the Haryana and J&K polls, followed by the counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after 30 minutes.

Ahead of vote counting for Haryana polls, Congress candidate from Kaithal Aditya Surjewala said his party will win 70 seats.

"Exit polls say that we will win 60 seats (of the total 90 seats), but I say that we will win 70 seats, we will Kaithal seat too," he told reporters.

Congress MP KC Venugopal has held a meeting with the party's poll observers for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of several exit polls showing that Congress may win in Haryana, and its alliance with National Conference may stay ahead in the race for Jammu and Kashmir.

Ahead of the counting of votes for the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana, Congress workers gathered outside the party headquarters in Delhi and raised slogans in support of the party.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today said the BJP is ready to serve the state for the third straight term.

"We are confident that the service we have done to Haryana over the past 10 years, on basis of that I can say that we are forming the government for a third time. The BJP is ready to serve the state for a third time...," he told reporters.

Ahead of the counting of votes for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, NC leader Omar Abdullah wished his colleagues and allies the "very best of luck" for today. 

"We fought the good fight and now, InshaAllah, the results will reflect that," he posted on X.

The National Conference is open to a strategic post-poll alliance with the People's Democratic Party to keep the BJP out of power after the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election, NC leader and ex Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has said.

"Why not..." Mr Abdullah asked reporters on Monday when asked about an alliance, "How does it matter? If we all work for the same thing... for improvement in the condition of the people of the state. We can be rivals in elections but I have no objections. I am sure Congress will not either."

The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor's power to nominate five members to the assembly has sparked a massive row ahead of counting of votes.

The Congress, its ally National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti's Peoples' Democratic Party have contended that providing such powers to the Lieutenant Governor is a subversion of the people's mandate as it will be used to benefit the BJP. 

Jammu and Kashmir BJP president and candidate from the Nowshera assembly seat, Ravinder Raina today said he is "confident" his party will win the elections with "full majority".

"We will win 30-35 seats," he told reporters.

Prominent among those in the fray in Haryana assembly elections are Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is contesting from the Ladwa seat, Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda (Garhi Sampla-Kiloi), INLD's Abhay Chautala (Ellenabad), JJP's Dushyant Chautala (Uchana Kalan), BJP's Anil Vij (Ambala Cantt), Capt Abhimanyu (Narnaund), O P Dhankar (Badli), AAP's Anurag Dhanda (Kalayat) and Congress' Vinesh Phogat (Julana).

Key candidates contesting Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are NC leader Omar Abdullah, who is fighting from the Budgam and Ganderbal seats, Sajad Gani Lone of People's Conference (from Handwara and Kupwara seats), Congress' Tariq Hamid Karra (from Batamaloo) and BJP state president Ravinder Raina (Nowshera seat).

The other notable contestants are Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir (Dooru), PDP leaders Waheed Para (Pulwama), Iltija Mufti (Bijbehara), Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari (Chanapora), CPI(M) veteran Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami (Kulgam) and former deputy J&K chief ministers Muzaffar Hussain Baig and Tara Chand.

As many as 873 candidates are vying for a seat in the 90-member house in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Election Commission officials, a three-tier security set up has been put in place at all the counting centres in Jammu and Kashmir.

Of the 90 seats in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, 24 voted in the first phase, 26 in the second and 40 in the third.

A total of 1,031 candidates, including 464 Independents and 101 women, are in the fray on Haryana's 90 constituencies.

Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by the counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after 30 minutes. 

As many as 93 counting centres have been set up for 90 assembly constituencies in 22 districts of Haryana.

Two counting centres each have been set up for the Badshahpur, Gurugram, and Pataudi assembly constituencies, while one counting centre each has been established for the remaining 87 assembly constituencies. To monitor the counting process, 90 counting observers also have been appointed by the Election Commission.

Votes will shortly be counted for the assembly elections in Haryana - where the BJP is eyeing a straight third term - and Jammu and Kashmir, which voted in an assembly election after a gap of 10 years.

The counting of votes is scheduled to begin at 8 am.

Ahead of the Haryana assembly poll results, the issue of chief minister-ship has taken centre stage in the Congres. The party gave the former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda a free hand in finalising majority candidates and formulating election strategy, but another heavyweight and Dalit leader Kumari Selja has thrown her hat in the ring, queering the pitch for the Jat stalwart.

Ms Selja, the Lok Sabha MP, has publicly staked claim to the chief minister's post and said the high command will take the final call on who will lead the state should the party win tomorrow.

In Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the main fight is among the BJP, Mehmooba Mufti's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the alliance of Congress and Farooq Abdullah's National Conference (NC).

Other parties that can play a key role in Jammu and Kashmir, where exit polls have predicted a hung house, are People's Conference, Democratic Progressive Azad Party and Apni Party. 

J&K voted in its first assembly elections since 2014, first as a Union Territory and first after the removal of Article 370, which gave the erstwhile state special status.

In Haryana assembly elections, it is a largely bipolar contest between the BJP and the Congress. While the BJP is eyeing a third straight term, Congress is aiming to make a comeback. Several exit polls have predicted a clear majority for the Congress in the state.

The votes for the assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir will be counted tomorrow.

The counting is expected to begin at 8 am for 90 assembly seats each in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.
