"Must Revisit How Much We Could Deliver Through Agniveer": Chirag Paswan

Chirag Paswan, whose party has pulled off a stunner by winning all five Lok Sabha seats it contested, told NDTV today that he is in favour of a review of the Agnipath scheme and a nationwide caste census. Mr Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is the second NDA ally after JDU to push for the Agnipath review and caste census.

Speaking to NDTV in an exclusive interview, the 41-year-old said the credit for his party's success goes to the people of Bihar. "I have gone through a bad phase for the longest period of my life, but the one thing that kept me going is that I was with the people of my state. I had that belief in myself. I had the blessings of my father," he said.

Analysis: Biggest Takeaways From Election Results In 3 Southern States
Tamil Nadu : A DMK Sweep, BJP's Annamalai Comes Up Short

In Tamil Nadu, it is clear that state BJP president Annamalai's campaign and the party's overwhelming focus on breaching the Dravidian fortress has still failed to win seats.

The DMK-led INDIA alliance in the state has firmly held on to its bastion and won an absolute sweep - 39 of 39, one more than the 38 it won last time. Vote shares reflect that the AIADMK is clearly the second largest party, but the BJP too has a double-digit vote share at 11 per cent, placing third, ahead of the Congress's 10 per cent. But the Congress contested fewer seats than the BJP, so their vote shares may not be comparable.

In 2 Madhya Pradesh Seats, Father-Son Combo Fails To Ensure Congress Win
Among the states that handed over a 100 per cent result to the BJP in this election is Madhya Pradesh, where it swept all 29 seats. The Congress, which improved its overall tally this time, was wiped out in the heartland state, also losing the one seat it won in the 2019 polls.

The defeat on two seats in Madhya Pradesh will sting the Congress the most -- these are Chhindwara and Ratlam. Congress veteran Kamal Nath, who won the seat a record nine times since the 1980s, failed to ensure his son Nakul Nath's victory. In Ratlam, it was the other way round. Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria lost despite his son being MLA in one of the Assembly segments in the Lok Sabha constituency.
