New Delhi: The Law Commission's new Chairman, Justice DK Jain, has said that reforms in the electoral system would be his priority.
"The government wants the Law Commission to take up electrical reforms. I have received communication from the Law Minister this this needs to be expedited," Justice Jain told NDTV in an exclusive interview.
He called the gang-rape of the medical student in Delhi last month a "beastly act" and said the Law Commission, if need be, would give recommendations on changes in sexual offence laws.
"The Justice Verma committee has submitted its report. I understand the Law Commission too has given its report. If considered necessary and appropriate, the commission shall also make recommendations," he said.
Justice Jain took charge of the Law Commission after retiring as a senior judge of the Supreme Court on Thursday.
He said one of the tasks before the commission was the need to amend laws that were out of sync with the times. He also hoped the commission's reports would be given due respect by the government.
