A soldier was killed and four terrorists were shot dead in a fierce encounter at a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian early this morning, the police said. Three more soldiers were injured.
A joint team of the Army's paratroopers, the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force were carrying out searches at Nadigam village 60 km from Srinagar when the terrorists opened fire at them. The army had intelligence inputs of terrorists hiding in the area and had launched a pre-dawn search operation.
"Four terrorists have been killed in the operation in Nadigam area of Shopian," Srinagar-based defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.
Two days ago, two terrorists associated with terror outfit Al-Badr were killed in an encounter in Rebban area in the district. On the same day, a jawan was killed when terrorists opened fire on a CRPF camp in Pulwama.
