Engineering student arrested for Goa blast

Panaji: A 20-year-old engineering student was arrested in connection with the Goa blast case on Wednesday from Khed, Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, police said.

"Dhananjay Ashtekar was arrested after thorough interrogation in connection with hatching a conspiracy of triggering bomb blasts in the state," Superintendent of Police (PRO) Dilip Deshpande said.

Ashtekar is an electronic engineering student of a college at Ichalkaranjee and a seeker of Sanatan Sanstha, Deshpande said.

He was remanded to 12-day police custody after he was produced before local court on Wednesday, he said.

Police stated that Ashtekar was linked to planting explosives at Sancoale village, which were detected and defused.

The October 16 Margaon blast had left two Sanatan Sanstha followers, Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, dead while two more seekers of the organisation Vinayak Patil and Vinay Talekar were arrested later by special investigation team probing the blast.

Police sources confirmed that Ashtekar's name cropped up during the interrogation of Patil and Talekar.

Ashtekar's arrest is the third in the blast case and all the arrested are linked to Sanstha, a right wing Hindu organisation based in Goa.
