Patna:
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that all the villages in Bihar will have electricity by November 2016.
The Chief Minister's declaration - made during an interaction with journalists in Patna today - comes on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement that 18,000 villages across the country will have electricity within a thousand days.
More than 4000 of the state's 40,000 villages remains to be electrified -- a target the state is confident of achieving in the next 14 months.
But Mr Kumar was evasive when asked whether each and every household will have electricity.
He said it depends on individual consumers, "but our endeavour will remain to expand and include each and every household as power transformer and wire will reach each and every village".
Power is one of the key talking points as every time PM Modi visits Bihar. The Prime Minister criticises the state over poor power situation. The Nitish Kumar government counters that the power situation has improved and steps have been taken to electrify most of the villages.
