Evidence not enough to summon Narendra Modi: Nanavati Commission

Evidence not enough to summon Narendra Modi: Nanavati Commission
Ahmedabad: The Nanavati commission, probing the post-Godhra Gujarat riots, has emphasised that the material placed before it, were not enough to summon Chief minister Narendra Modi. The commission, however, did not rule out summoning the Gujarat Chief Minister, in future.

When pointed out by advocate Mukul Sinha that the state government had earlier informed the Gujarat High Court that the order to not summon Modi wasn't final, the commission clarified that it was pertaining to allegations against former Minister of state for home, Gordhan Zadafiya and police officer R J Savani and did not pertain to Modi.

Justice Nanavati, however, stressed that decision to not summon the Gujarat Chief Minister was based on the facts placed before it so far. He added that if new facts are placed before it, and in the overall consideration if the commission finds it fit to summon anyone, they will do so.
